Green is no rookie in the NFL. 2008 marked the veteran’s 11th season in the NFL. Before coming to the NFL, Green was a standout at Nebraska and part of the 1995 team that won the national title. He entered the draft after his junior year and was selected in the third round by the Seattle Seahawks in 1998. That first year, he played in all 16 games bud did not start any. He had 35 carries for 209 yards and one touchdown. He again didn’t start in 1999, but played in 14 games, tallying 120 yards on 26 carries. He was traded to the Green Bay Packers before the 2000 season. That year, he started in 11 out of the 16 games he played in, tallying 1,175 yards and 10 touchdowns on 263 carries.

He started every game the year after, amazing 1,387 yards and nine touchdowns on 304 carries and had his first Pro Bowl invitation. He had similar stats in 2002, but had to sit out of two games because of an injury. He still had 1,240 yards and seven touchdowns as well as another Pro Bowl selection. 2003 and 2004 were both Pro Bowl years as well. In 2003, he had a career-high season with 1,883 yards and 15 touchdowns on 355 carries. He played only five games in 2005 before being placed on injured reserve because of a ruptured right quadriceps tendon. He also missed two games in 2006, but started the other 14 games. Green was signed as a free agent by the Texans before the 2007 season. He played six games with five starts in 2007 before being placed on IR with a knee injury. He managed 260 yards and two touchdowns on 70 attempts.

Before being put on IR this season, Green had played in eight games and started one. He had tallied 294 yards and three touchdowns on 74 attempts. Green’s replacement, Slaton, is a rookie this season who the Texans picked up in the third round of the 2008 draft.
